Black and white self portrait demonstrating queer Sacramento portrait photography. The subject has short, dark hair and light skin. Most of their face is obscured by the camera they're holding up to their face, but you can see their hair, forehead, and one eye. You can see them a bit in the reflection of the camera lens, along with partial spines of a few books, reading "aft - Blake" on one with the llwellyn logo, "al Dance" with the harper collins logo on the next, and "life" on the one at the outer edge.

Queer Sacramento Portrait Photography for People Who Want Recognition, Not Performance

I don’t just shoot queer Sacramento portrait photography, I am a queer portrait photographer. So, if you’ve never quite recognized yourself in photos – if being photographed has felt performative, uncomfortable, or quietly alienating – you’re not alone, and I know this to be true. My work exists for people who are tired of being flattened, misread, or asked to translate themselves for the sake of a picture.

This isn’t about fixing how you show yup.
It’s about honoring who you are.

My approach is observant and grounded. I pay attention to how you take up space, where you hold tension, and what shifts when you can finally stop bracing. That awareness isn’t used to direct or correct – it’s used to remove the roadblocks so your Truth can surface.

No performing.
No posing.
No minimizing yourself to be palatable.

The work I do is intentional, and paced. I photograph with awareness of boundaries and energy – not to manage, but to avoid distortion. I don’t over-direct, and I don’t rush. Whether or not you usually avoid the camera, you get overwhelmed, or you’re tired of being mis-represented, my process is designed to make room for your Truth.

This work centers primarily on queer folx, trans and nonbinary people, and those whose identities have too often been overlooked, misunderstood, or erased. It’s also for the relationships who make you who you are – partners, family of all kinds, friends, and animal companions included. You don’t have to come alone to be fully seen.

I don’t photograph for perfection or polish. I photograph what the light reveals when you’re allowed to exist without explanation or justification.

If you’re looking for images that feel grounded to live with – proof who you are, as you are – you’re in the right place.
